The idea for the White Peace Doves first came about in 2007, and the campaign was officially inaugurated in 2009 with the distribution of thousands of White Peace Doves across Canada. In 2006 the Alberta-Northwest Territories Command of the Royal Canadian Legion tried to stop the sale and distribution of White Poppies for Peace in Canada. You can read more about the story here. A group of Canadian Peace activists decided to produce a symbol that they could wear to continue to demonstrate their profound commitment to the cause of Peace.
White Peace Doves are designed to complement the Remembrance Day Poppy, and also to commemorate the United Nations International Day for Peace, on September 21st. The White Peace Dove Campaign continues the message of the White Poppies for Peace: there are better ways of resolving conflicts then killing strangers. The White Dove Peace Association is the non-profit organisation that runs the White Peace Dove Campaign. 100% of the profits of the White Peace Dove Campaign are donated to groups working for the cause of Peace.
